Before
the East Grand Rapids and Catholic Central game kicked off, the teams
took a moment to honor coach Jim Galvin. It was a nice presentation,
honoring a man who has had such a big impact on football programs in
West Michigan.
Coach
Galvin has spent the last 50 years coaching high school football
coaching both East Grand Rapids and Catholic Central. Galvin started
his career way back in 1964 as an assistant at Grand Rapids Catholic
Central. He moved on to Hudsonville before returning back to Catholic
Central as a head coach.
In
2010, Galvin joined the staff at East Grand Rapids. Over the course of
his career, he also coached at Sparta, Ottawa Hills, and Traverse City
Central.
Galvin
led the Cougars to the 1987 Class B State Championship and was named
Coach of the Year for that season. 2012 rolled around and Galvin was
elected into the Coaches Hall of Fame.
East
Grand Rapids athletic director Tim Johnston, head coach Peter Stuursma,
captains Mikey Roth and Michael Johnston, and the Catholic Central
coaching staff met Coach Galvin at midfield for the presentation.
