Moment
of the Night: A
37-yard TD run from Malik McLaughlin cut East Grand Rapids' lead to
17-7, but then Carter Masek blocked a punt and returned it for a TD to
extend EGR's lead to 24-7 with 9:19 left in the game.
Going
for it: On
their first two possessions of the game, Grand Rapids Christian went
for it on 4th and goal. Each time they were stopped, the first by an
incomplete pass and the second on a rush attempt by McLaughlin.
Shined
in a losing effort: Malik
McLaughlin had 113 yards rushing including his 37-yard TD in the loss.
Player
of the Game: Bryce
Henkey. He might not have reached the end zone, but his 136 yard night
on the ground helped bring the Pioneers' run game back to life. This
completely opened up the game and sparked not only the offense, but the
defense as well.
A
must win: The
Pioneers needed the win to keep their playoff hopes alive. A loss would
have given them four on the season, which likely would have ended their
playoff chances.
