It was a defensive battle in the first half at Fifth Third Ball Park as East Grand Rapids and Forest Hills Central traded three and outs for most of the half.

East Grand Rapids was able to knock in a 22-yard field goal from Noah Salasky with 4:14 left in the 1st quarter and the 3-0 lead held until the half. The field goal came after a 13-play, 75-yard drive down to the Forest Hills Central 5-yard line. QB Mikey Roth had Carter Masek open in the endzone on 2nd down and goal from the 5, but the ball was deflected at the line of scrimmage forcing the Pioneers to settle for a field goal.

Forest Hills Central put together a nice drive of their own in the 2nd quarter driving down to the East Grand Rapids 12-yard line, but David Riser's 29-yard field was just off the mark and EGR maintained their 3-0 lead with 5:54 left in the half.

After forcing a punt with 3:57 left in the half, the Rangers' offense got things going. Forest Hills Central QB Brett Miller hit Johnny Nutter on three straight passes taking the ball to the EGR 37 yard line. Two plays later on 4th down, Miller hit Nutter down the middle for a 31-yard TD as time expired, but the play was called back due to an illegal procedure penalty. The Rangers headed into the half down 3-0.

Both defenses continued to be strong into the 3rd quarter as each team went three and out on back to back drives sending the game into the 4th quarter still at 3-0 East Grand Rapids.

Forest Hills Central put together a nice drive after starting on their own 21-yard line, but it ended with a 42-yard missed field goal with 9:54 left in the 4th quarter.

East took advantage of the missed field goal and put together an 80-yard TD drive capped by a Mikey Roth 40-yard TD pass to Michael Clifford. The TD was set up by 13 and 8-yard runs by fullback Mike Johnston before Roth rolled out to his left and hit Clifford ten yards down the field. Clifford then did the rest shifting his way through defenders and using a burst of speed to reach the endzone giving the Pioneers a 10-0 lead.

The EGR defense then forced a three and out, which basically sealed the deal. The Pioneers held the ball and let the clock run down to 35 seconds before turning it over to the Rangers and that ended up being the game. EGR improves to (4-2, 1-1 in OK White), while FHC is now (1-5, 1-1 in OK White).
