Grand
Rapids Christian controlled an exciting game throughout the first half
building a 21-10 lead, but Muskegon rallied in the 2nd half to pull out
a 29-21 win.
Muskegon
jumped out to an early 10-0 lead in the 1st quarter after an 8-yard TD
run from Alquan Evans and a 32-yard field goal from Miguel Flores.
In
the 2nd quarter, things did not go Muskegon's way after the Big Reds
fumbled on 3 straight possessions. The Eagles capitalized on the Big
Reds' mistakes by scoring 21 points in the 2nd quarter to take a 21-10
halftime lead. Eagles QB Patrick Hall threw a 26-yard TD pass to Malik
McLaughlin to get GR Christian on the board, then Hall added a 10-yard
TD run to make it 14-10. With 4:21 left in the half, a 14-yard TD run
from Hall increased the Eagles lead to 21-10.
In
the 2nd half, Shawn Pfenning hit Keonte Whiteside for a 23-yard TD in
the 3rd quarter cutting the deficit to 21-16. Caleb Washington then
took over the 4th quarter and his 36-yard TD run with 10:25 left gave
Muskegon the lead for good. He later added a 10-yard TD with 54 seconds
left to seal the deal and give the Big Reds a 29-21 win.
Washington
finished the night with 172 yards and 2 touchdowns, while the defense
held strong in the 2nd half surrendering 0 points. Taran Smith was a
monster at linebacker, racking up 9 tackles and a sack.
Christian
High QB Patrick Hall was 10/25 passing for 122 yards with a TD, while
adding 84 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground. Jack Bates led the
Eagles' defense with 12.5 tackles (4 TFL).
Muskegon
improves their record to 2-0 after beating another quality opponent
(beat Detroit Catholic Central 21-14 in week 1), while Grand Rapids
Christian is now 1-1 on the season.
