Today
we are looking at which programs from each OK Conference have the most
total wins over the past 8 years (2006-13). Yes, we know the
conferences have shifted a little bit, but let's take a look it through
the 2013 season. Here is a look at which schools have built a winning
program.
OK Black
Muskegon:
84-17 overall, 2 State Championships (2006, 2008)
Overview:
Muskegon has been one of the most dominant programs in West Michigan
for a while. The Big Reds took home State Championships in 2006 and
2008 going 14-0 in each of those seasons. They also reached the State
Finals in 2012 and 2013, but lost to another state powerhouse
Birmingham Brother Rice. Muskegon last missed the playoffs in 1999.
OK Blue
Comstock
Park: 56-31 overall, 3 State Semifinal appearances (2011, 2012, 2013)
Overview:
It was very close, but Comstock Park was able to edge Allendale by 3
wins thanks mostly in part to records of 10-3, 11-2, and 12-1 over the
past 3 seasons. The Panthers have made the playoffs 4 straight years
and reached the State Semifinals in each of the last 3 years.
OK Bronze
Grand
Rapids West Catholic: 87-20 overall, 2 State Championships (2010, 2013)
Overview:
The Falcons have racked up at least 10 wins in 6 of the last 8 years.
Their stretch from 2010-13 is impressive: State Championship, State
Semifinal, State Final, and State Championship. West Catholic's great
8-year stretch started after the team missed the playoffs in 2005 after
going 5-4. Now this great program shifts conferences and will be in the
OK Blue this fall.
OK Gold
Grand
Rapids Catholic Central: 62-27 overall, 1 State Championship (2010)
Overview:
South Christian might have reached the State Finals in the previous 2
seasons, but Catholic Central has 62 wins (2 more than South Christian)
in the past 8 seasons. The Cougars best season came back in 2010 when
they were 12-2 and the Division 4 State Champions.
OK Green
Zeeland
West: 76-19 overall, 3 State Championships (2006, 2011, 2013)
Overview:
The Dux of Zeeland West have accumulated at least 12 wins in 4 of the
past 8 seasons. 3 of those seasons ended with State Championships.
After Zeeland split into 2 high schools, the Dux have produced the
better football program so far making the playoffs 7 times since the
program began in 2005.
OK Red
Rockford:
86-15 overall, 1 State Championship (2008)
Overview:
Rockford, no doubt, has been one of the best programs in the state for
about 20 years. They have 6 seasons of at least 10 wins in the past 8
years and have reached the playoffs every season. They reached at least
the State Semifinals 5 times since 2006 and played for a State
Championship twice (2006, 2008).
OK Silver
Hopkins:
56-27 overall, 4 straight Conference Championships (2010, 2011, 2012,
2013)
Overall:
Hopkins has made the playoffs for 7 consecutive seasons and has won 4
straight Conference Championships. They had 9 win seasons in 2008 and
2012. The Vikings reached the Regional Final in 2008, but fell short vs
eventual State Champion Muskegon Oakridge.
OK
White
Lowell:
85-15 overall, 1 State Championship (2009)
East
Grand Rapids: 85-16 overall, 5 State Championships (2006-10)
Overview:
Figures, Lowell and East Grand Rapids would have the same amount of
wins over the past 8 years. EGR has the upper hand in the 8-year span
with an incredible 5 straight State Championships, but Lowell is 5-3 vs
EGR since 2006. The Pioneers developed a rivalry with Orchard Lake
Saint Mary's as they beat the Eaglets in the State Title Game 3 of the
5 years.
Lowell
was able to reach the State Finals 3 straight years (2009-11) and they
beat Inkster in 2009. The Red Arrows had to deal with Muskegon several
times over the last 8 seasons as the Big Reds ended Lowell's season 4
times.
