On
a night where South Christian (2-2) celebrated 50 years of football,
the Sailors put on a show in route to their 2nd straight win.
Jon
Wassink is known for being a great quarterback, but tonight Wassink
kicked off the scoring by returning an interception 33-yards for a TD
on Forest Hills Eastern's (2-2) first possession.
After
the Sailors forced a punt, Wassink hit Ryan Veenstra on a 54-yard
completion down to the 2-yard line and Geff Plasman capped the drive
with a TD giving South Christian a 13-0 lead with 6:30 left.
The
next two possessions ended in an interception as Forest Hills Eastern's
Luke Wilkerson was picked off by Zach Sinnema and then Jon Wassink was
picked off by Antoine Keaton.
Forest
Hills Eastern then drove into South Christian territory down to the 30,
but Luke Wilkerson was sacked on 4th down and the Sailors took over.
South Christian proceeded to run the ball eight straight times and Geff
Plasman scored his 2nd TD of the night, again a 2-yarder, with 6:53
left in the half.
The
rest of the half remained scoreless for both teams, but South Christian
came out firing in the 2nd half. Right out of the gate, the Sailors
used the run game to march 55 yards before Jon Wassink hit Brandon
VanSolkema with a 20-yard TD pass.
The
Sailors went on to force a fumble and were able to capitalize as
Wassink threw a 30-yard strike to Evan Beukema to make the score 34-0.
On
the next drive, Luke Wilkerson hit Ryan Knight for a 12-yard TD and
made the score 34-7 South Christian with 1:31 left in the 3rd. Then
late in the 4th Kyle Andreen completed a 7-yard TD pass to Antoine
Keaton making the score 34-14 and that's where it stood for the rest of
the game.
