The
South Christian Sailors football team (5-2, 3-0 in OK Gold) played with
heavy hearts tonight as the South Christian Community lost teacher Rod
VanDyke to a tragic bicycle accident earlier this week. South
Christian honored Mr. VanDyke before the game in a very touching
ceremony.
Hastings
(0-7, 0-3 in OK Gold) was coming in looking for their first win of the
season and scored on their first drive with a 21-yard touchdown pass
from Clay Coltson to Lee Stowe.
South
Christian would have a touchdown pass called back due to holding on
their first drive and eventually would fall short on 4th down due to an
incomplete pass. The incomplete pass by Wassink ended up being
only one of three he had on the night (17/20).
Hastings
would punt on their next possession and it would be all South Christian
from there. South Christian scored on a 9-yard touchdown pass
from Wassink to Brandon VanSolkema. The Sailors followed this
up with the 1st of two blocked punts. Geff Plasman would
capitalize for South Christian running it in from 8 yards out to give
the Sailors a 14-7 lead.
Hastings
would knock through a 23-yard field on their next possession to bring
it to 14-10, but South Christian then scored on their next 5
possessions on touchdown passes of 17, 14, and 63 yards to Jake
Wierenga and twice to Evan Beukema. Plasman added 8 and 22-yard
touchdown runs.
Hastings
would score on their final two possessions to bring the final to 48-24.
The win gives South Christian a 5-game winning streak.
