Saying South Christian defensive back Eric
VanVoorst has a "nose for the ball" might be an understatement. In
2013, VanVoorst grabbed 10 interceptions for the Sailors on his way to
All-State honors. That's right, I said 10.
On offense, VanVoorst made just as big an impact
with over 80 catches, 1,000 yards, and double digit touchdowns. The kid
is a playmaker and he will be part of possibly the best offense in west
Michigan in 2014.
VanVoorst had big games down the stretch in South
Christian's run to the 2013 State Championship game. He racked up 3
interceptions in the 20-6 semifinal win over Comstock Park. The
following week, he piled up 11 receptions for 164 yards and 3 TD in the
State Final vs Marine City.
Expect Wassink to find VanVoorst all season long
and expect VanVoorst to find the ball plenty of times in 2014 whether
it's on offense or defense. After seeing last season end with a loss at
Ford Field, VanVoorst is part of a talented group ready to put together
an even stronger season.
