Russell threw 3 touchdowns and added 2 more on the ground as West
Catholic (7-0, 3-0) beat Comstock Park (3-4, 2-1) 47-33 at Fifth Third
Ball Park on Friday night. The fight between the teams on top of the OK
Blue standings was dominated mostly by the quarterbacks.
West
Catholic QB Travis Russell threw 2 TD passes to Charlie O'Connor and
another to Conner Nemmers, all in the 2nd quarter. Russell finished the
game 15/27 for 304 yards and the 3 touchdowns. He had 87 yards rushing
to go with his 2 rushing touchdowns.
Conner
Nemmers had his best game of the season with 5 receptions for 174 yards
and a TD. The 174 yards receiving is the most by a West Catholic
receiver
in a game this season. Charlie O'Connor had a great day as well, adding
6 receptions for 87 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The
Falcons ran for 139 yards and 3 touchdowns on the night, the 2 from
Russell, and the other from David Fox who had 7 carries for 35 yards on
the night. Nick Buursma added 49 yards rushing.
Comstock
Park QB Pat Naughton did his best to rival Russell and racked up 5
total touchdowns of his own. Naughton ran for 4 touchdowns and tossed 1
against a West Catholic defense that has been one of the best in the
area this season.
Drew
Hernandez had 10 tackles (2 TFL), Carl Myers had 9 (2 TFL) Bryce Witham
had 8 (2 TFL), while Ben Sweedyk and David Fox each had 7 on the night.
The Falcons continued their streak of creating a turnover every game in
2014 as Conner Nemmers recovered a fumble.
Comstock
Park ran for 203 yards on the night and averaged 6.6 yards per carry.
The Falcons
never trailed in the game and led 40-26 heading into the 4th quarter
after West Catholic scored 16 points in the 2nd quarter and then added
17 points in the 3rd.
