The rush offense has been dominant
the past few weeks for West Catholic (6-0, 2-0 in OK Blue), but Friday
night against Sparta it was about throwing the ball. QB Travis Russell
used his arm to lead the Falcons to a win 49-6. Russell was 8/11 for
182 yards and 4 touchdowns, while also adding 53 yards and a rushing TD.
3
of Russell's TD passes went to Bryce Witham, who finished the night
with 3 receptions for 121 yards (40.3 yards per catch). Sam Neville
caught the other TD pass from Russell and ended up with 3 catches for
38 yards.
The
Falcons used a big 2nd quarter (28 points) and dominant defense to
build a big lead at the half. The rush offense was balanced as David
Fox (81 yards,) Russell (53 yards, TD), and Nick Buursma (80 yards, TD)
led the Falcons to 268 yards rushing on the night.
Nick
Buursma added 10 tackles on defense, while Jason McDonough had an
interception. The Falcons' defense has forced a turnover in all six
games this season. Carl Meyers and Drew Hernandez each had 7 tackles.
West
Catholic is now 6-0 and sitting on a playoff berth as they continue the
push towards an OK Blue title. The game that will likely decide the
conferece title will be next week at Fifth Third Ball Park as the
Falcons will take on Comstock Park (3-3, 2-0 in the OK Blue).
Notes:
Sparta
had 257 yards rushing on the night and a TD.
West
Catholic had 10 different players with a rush attempt with Russell,
Buursma, and Jason Hickey reaching the endzone for six.
