It was a beautiful night for high school football as East Grand Rapids (4-3, 1-2 in OK White) capped their annual Hearts of Gold week with a big OK White matchup with Caledonia.

Caledonia (5-2, 2-1 in OK White) got things going immediately as QB Kobe Wilson hit Michael Andrusiak on a 52-yard pass down to the 10-yard line on the second play of the game. A few plays later, Wilson completed the drive with a 3-yard rushing TD giving Caledonia a 7-0 lead with 9:36 left in the 1st.

The Caledonia defense was strong throughout the 1st half and forced a three and out on the Pioneers' first possession. The Scots took over on their own 30-yard line and were able to drive down to the East Grand Rapids 34, but Kelly was stopped on 4th down just short of the sticks by Michael Johnston and Mason Banbury.

The Pioneers took over, but once again they were forced to punt and this time Caledonia was able to turn another drive into points. Eddie Kelly ripped off a 30-yard run down to the EGR 20, but the East Grand Rapids defense was able to force a 4th and 5 from the 15. The Scots used a hard count and forced the Pioneers to jump offsides giving Caledonia a first down. On the next play Kelly busted up the middle 10 yards for the TD giving the Scots a 14-0 lead with 11:56 left in the 2nd.

After the safety, the Scots used a 27-yard pass from Tanner Christian to Trenton Foreman to reach the East Grand Rapids 15-yard line. A few plays later the Scots had 1st and goal from the 1, but the EGR defense held strong stuffing two consecutive QB sneaks and then a false start penalty made it 3rd and goal from the 6. After Burton was stopped for no gain, Caledonia went for it on 4th down. The Pioneers' defense stepped up again as Brendan Oosse and Mason Banbury sacked Tanner Christian causing a turnover on downs.

The Pioneers responded with a 51-yard pass from Mikey Roth to Sam Matthews, but Caledonia stepped up on defense forcing a 4th down and a Mikey Roth pass down the sidelines was complete to AJ Zawacki, but he was out of bounds. The game headed into halftime 16-0 Caledonia.

After trading punts to start the 2nd half, Caledonia was able to capitalize after Drake Ellens picked off a Mikey Roth deep ball with 3:31 left in the quarter. The Scots used Eddie Kelly and Jalen Burton to drive down to the East Grand Rapids 11-yard line. Then on 3rd and 11, Tanner Christian hit Nick Adams in the middle of the end zone for a TD and a 23-0 lead for the Scots.

EGR put together a nice drive on the following possession after Mikey Roth used an 8 and 12-yard run to push the Pioneers into Caledonia territory. He then completed passes to Nathan McCardell for 11 yards and AJ Zawacki for 14 yards to help EGR reach the Caledonia 10-yard line. On 3rd and goal from the 10 Roth's fade route into the corner of the end zone was picked off by Drake Ellens.

In the middle of the 4th quarter with the score still 23-0 the Pioneers forced a fumble and Mike Johnston recovered it with 5:28 left. Mikey Roth then drove the Pioneers down the field completing 6 of 7 passes including an 11-yard TD to Jon Olsson with 4:02 left in the game.

The Pioneers had some life, but Eddie Kelly was able to rip off a 44-yard TD run with 3:04 left, which ended up sealing the deal for Caledonia as they went on to win 30-7.
